{"id":586,"date":"2018-03-14T09:32:54","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T14:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tax-power.com\/?p=586"},"modified":"2018-03-14T09:32:54","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T14:32:54","slug":"winter-storm-extension-many-businesses-have-extra-time-to-request-a-6-month-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tax-power.com\/?p=586","title":{"rendered":"Winter storm extension: Many businesses have extra time to request a 6-month extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IR-2018-50, March 13, 2018<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 The Internal Revenue Service today granted many businesses affected by severe winter storms additional time to request a six-month extension to file their 2017 federal income tax returns.<\/p>\n<p>The IRS is providing this relief to victims and tax professionals affected by last week\u2019s storm&#8211;known as Winter Storm Quinn\u2014and this week\u2019s storm \u2013known as Winter Storm Skylar&#8211;that primarily hit portions of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p>Business taxpayers who are unable to file their return by the regular due date\u2014Thursday, March 15, 2018&#8211;can request an automatic extension by filing <a title=\"1217 Form 7004                           (PDF)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-pdf\/f7004.pdf\" data-entity-substitution=\"pup_linkit_media\" data-entity-type=\"media\" data-entity-uuid=\"14974ef2-ceb2-4807-a0d9-9bd130ce66a8\">Form 7004<\/a>, on or before Tuesday, March 20, 2018.\u00a0 Form 7004,\u00a0 available on IRS.gov, provides a six-month extension for returns filed by partnerships (Forms <a title=\"About Form 1065, U.S. Return of Partnership Income\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/forms-pubs\/about-form-1065-us-return-of-partnership-income\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"6596077a-7e3f-4192-8b70-d263399b00ba\">1065<\/a> and <a title=\"About Form 1065-B, U.S. Return of Income for Electing Large Partnerships\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/forms-pubs\/about-form-1065-b-us-return-of-income-for-electing-large-partnerships\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"1b267aba-8a46-4a76-9e5e-c1ec6adf8170\">1065-B<\/a>) and S corporations (<a title=\"About Form 1120S\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/forms-pubs\/about-form-1120s\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"81676fe7-ce38-4570-b29e-3b9b315510fd\">Form 1120S<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Eligible taxpayers taking advantage of this relief should write, \u201cWinter Storm Quinn\u201d or \u201cWinter Storm Skylar,\u201d on their Form 7004 extension request (if filing this form on paper).\u00a0 As always, the fastest and easiest way to get an extension is to file this form electronically.<\/p>\n<p>The IRS will continue to monitor conditions and provide additional relief if circumstances warrant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IR-2018-50, March 13, 2018 WASHINGTON \u2014 The Internal Revenue Service today granted many businesses affected by severe winter storms additional &hellip;
