Where's my NYS Tax Refund?

For years New Yorkers have been frustrated that they can't go to a website to check the status of their NYS tax refund as they can do regarding their federal IRS tax refund at http://www.irs.gov/Refunds

FINALLY there is a solution; however it is not as simple as the IRS site as you need to register first (which New Yorkers should have done anyway by now) and then log in to check your refund status. Below is an email that the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance sent out today.

"You can sign up to receive an email when your New York State income tax refund is scheduled to be issued. There's no longer any need to call the department to check your refund status.

- Log on to your Online Services account.

- At the top of the page, from "Account Preferences" select "Manage email".
